Local girls and women are dancing for a good cause.
On Thursday, the Foley Middle School Dance Team is hosting the Breast Cancer Awareness Showcase from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
The cost is $3, with all proceeds going to Hospice Care Plus Inc. in Berea.
The event was organized by Sabrina Warren, dance/step coach at Foley Middle School.
“I wanted to get the girls involved in their community,” Warren said. “I want to teach them to be involved in some of the things that are going on in life.”
In addition to the Foley Middle School Dance Team, the event also will feature the Foley Middle School Lil Warriors, Foley Middle School cheerleaders, Madison Southern High School Dance Team, Madison Central High School Step Team, Clark Moores Middle School Dance Team and the SunShine Cloggers, an all ages dance team based in Richmond.
Individual performers include Monica Blake, Brandy Burchfield, McKenna Jennings, Lauren Thomas, Hailey Damron and Kaylee Thomas.
“It’s actually become bigger than I thought it would,” Warren said. “I’m really glad it’s turning out to be such a big event.”
Foley Middle School is planning a November/ December toy drive to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters and is in the early stages of putting together a February dance clinic to help the American Heart Association.
