FLOW 2012

Today, Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dillingham Park, 136 Pine St., Richmond, the Salvation Army and St. Paul AME Church will host an event to connect with the community. It will include free food, activities for kids, live music by the Zak Kratzer Band and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. There is no registration fees for the tournament, and a cash prize for will be awarded to the winners.

Community Women’s Conference

Today, Sept. 22, 1 to 4 p.m., the First Baptist Church, 300 Francis St., Richmond, will host a Community Women’s Conference. Dr. Janice Blythe is the featured speaker. Music will be provided by various churches in the community.

Choir Day at St. Paul AME

Sunday, Sept. 23, 3 p.m., the St. Paul AME Church, 437 Francis St., Richmond, will host Choir Day featuring the “Voices of Praise” from St. John AME Church in Frankfort.

Farristown Baptist anniversary

Sunday, Sept. 23, the Farristown Baptist Church will celebrate its 129th church anniversary.

The guest preacher for the morning service will be Rev. Thomas Ferrell Farris, associate minister of the Corinthian Baptist Church in Louisville. The afternoon guests will be Rev. Alfonso Kenney, pastor of the New Liberty Baptist Church of Berea and his congregation. Dinner will be served following the morning service. Please join us in this celebration!

Family Day at Goodloe Chapel

Sunday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. The members of Goodloe Chapel will celebrate Family Day, their guest will be Rev. Charles Harris of Lexington. Dinner will be served. Host pastor is Hunter Byrd Jr.

Revival at Liberty Chapel

Liberty Chapel Church, 464 Three Forks Road, Richmond, will be in revival, October 1-5, 7 p.m., Evangelist Wayne House will bring the message each evening. “Everyone is welcome to come and worship with us,” said pastor Roy Jackson.

Free-lunch ministry

Every Thursday, from noon to 3 p.m., Saint Paul AME Church, 437 Francis St., Richmond, serves a free lunch to all who come.

“This is an ongoing, weekly ministry to serve the hungry, the homeless and feed anyone who walks in our doors,” says Pastor William R.T. Hale.

Upward Bound Ministries

UBM’s Teen Turning Point is an intervention and prevention program for teens identified as at risk for academic failure, substance abuse issues, and potential judicial interaction.

• Is your teen experiencing trouble at school? (suspension, truancy, grades)

• Does your teen display violent behavior?

• Has your teen had problems with the law?

Teen Turning Point serves as an intervention program for teens identified as at risk for academic failure due to defiant and destructive behavior, substance abuse, or potential judicial interaction. The goal is to improve the health and well-being of teens in Madison and the surrounding counties, specifically addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Teen Turning Point objective is to provide hands-on, educational experiences regarding the benefits of replacing unhealthy behaviors with physical activity. (i.e., boot camp, obstacle courses, planned physical activities weekly)

It also provides opportunities and support for young people to explore careers and connect their schooling to careers (i.e., mentoring teens, career field trips, academic and career counseling.) In addition, it helps students of all ages become college-ready and mentally healthy (i.e., drug resistance skills and information, spiritual character development, self-management skills, communication skills, academic support and parent-child relationships)

UBM’s Turning Point ministry serves adults with addictions and compulsive behaviors. UBM Cope serves as a support program for adults and family members impacted by addictions and compulsive behaviors.
