Dulcimer maker Warren May to speak at Lenten luncheon

BEREA — Dulcimer maker and businessman Warren May will speak Wednesday for the Lenten Luncheon Series at Berea United Methodist Church.

A native Kentuckian, May has spent his lifetime working with wood. Born and raised in a two-story log home in Carroll County, Warren was the youngest of 10 children.

He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Kentucky University where he was trained in classical woodworking. He has more than 40 years of experience in teaching and professional furniture and dulcimer making.

Warren has made over 15,000 Appalachian dulcimers. Both furniture and Kentucky mountain dulcimers are created in the workshop located on his farm. Warren’s artwork has been featured in Popular Woodworking, Fine Woodworking, and Woodwork magazines, and seen on HGTV and Scott Phillips’ “The American Woodshop.”

The luncheon begins at noon in the Parish House, 101 Fee St., with a brief program including special music. Following the program, a light lunch is provided. Those attending should be able to see the program, enjoy a meal and return to work within 45 minutes. Reservations are not necessary. Simply come and join in the spirit of community and in celebration of the season of Lent. The theme for 2013 is “Where Love and Mercy Meet.”

The final speaker for the Lenten Luncheon series will be Dr. Sarah Little of St. Joseph Berea Family Medicine.
