NAACP monthly meeting

The Richmond/ Madison County Branch of the NAACP meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 302 Francis Street, Richmond.

Red House welcomes new pastor

Saturday (today), Sept. 15, 6 p.m. the Red House United Methodist Church will host a homemade ice cream social in honor of its new pastor, Joe White, and his family. A silent auction of sweet treats is also planned. Everyone is welcome and donations will be appreciated.

Men and Women’s Day

Sunday, Sept. 16, members of First Baptist Church, Francis Street, will celebrate their annual Men and Women Day. At the 11 a.m. worship, their guest speaker will be Elder Barry W, Bowman of St. Paul Predestinarian Baptist Church in Lancaster. The guest at 3:30 p.m. will be Rev. David Peoples of Centerville Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington. Host pastor Rev Robert Blythe invites everyone to attend.

Peytontown’s 126th Anniversary

Sunday, Sept. 16, the Peytontown Baptist Church will celebrate its 126th church anniversary. Guest for the 11 a.m. worship service will be Rev. Mervin Johnson. Guests for the 3:30 service will be Rev. David L. Ravizee, choir and congregation from Winburn Drive Baptist Church in Lexington. Everyone is welcome to come out to worship the Lord with us. Deacon Calvin Mitchell and Sis. Emma Mitchell are chairpersons for the event.

Missionary Day at Mt. Nebo

Sunday, Sept. 16, the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate Missionary Day. Pastor Brenda Douglas of TTR Ministries will be the guest speaker. Rev. Floyd Ballew is host pastor.

FLOW 2012

Saturday, Sept. 22, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dillingham Park, 136 Pine St., Richmond, the Salvation Army and St. Paul AME Church will host an event to connect with the community. It will include free food, activities for kids, live music by the Zak Kratzer Band and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

There is no registration fees for the tournament, and a cash prize for will be awarded to the winners.

Community Women’s Conference

On Saturday, Sept. 22, 1 to 4 p.m. First Baptist Church, 300 Francis St., Richmond, will host a Community Women’s Conference. Dr. Janice Blythe will be the featured speaker. Music will be provided by various churches in the community.

Farristown Baptist Church

Sunday, Sept. 23, the Farristown Baptist Church will celebrate its 129th church anniversary.

The guest preacher for the morning service will be Rev. Thomas Ferrell Farris, associate minister of the Corinthian Baptist Church in Louisville. The afternoon guess will be Rev. Alfonso Kenney, pastor of the New Liberty Baptist Church of Berea and his congregation. Dinner will be served following the morning service. Please join us in this celebration!

St. Paul AME Choir Day

Sunday, Sept. 23, 3 p.m., the St. Paul AME Church, 437 Francis St., Richmond, will host Choir Day featuring the “Voices of Praise” from St. John AME Church in Frankfort.

Free-lunch ministry

Every Thursday, from noon to 3 p.m., Saint Paul AME Church, 437 Francis St., Richmond, serves a free lunch to all who come.

“This is an ongoing, weekly ministry to serve the hungry, the homeless and feed anyone who walks in our doors,” says Pastor William R.T. Hale.
