DANVILLE —
Louise Rutledge Dowerman, 100 years old, of Danville, formerly of Richmond, the widow of Jacob M. “Jake” Dowerman, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 10, 2012, in her home.
She was born on June 23, 1912, in Richmond, to Dr. John Hunt Rutledge and Permelia Culton Rutledge, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dowerman was a member of First Christian Church in Danville.
She was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Vanderbilt University Peabody College and attended graduate school at University of Wisconsin.
She received an honorary degree Doctor of Letters in 1997 and a Presidential Award of Merit in 2005 from Eastern Kentucky University. She was a member of American Association of University Professors and American Association of University Women.
Mrs. Dowerman was a retired librarian from Broward Community College in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.. and a member of the Arlington Club at Eastern Kentucky University.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two brothers, Dr. Harold Hunt Rutledge (Jane) and Dr. Charles Culton Rutledge (Mary); and one beloved nephew, Dr. John Hunt Rutledge II. She is survived by: one nephew, Dr. Harold Hunt Rutledge II (Janet) of Richmond; two nieces, Judith Rutledge Pierson (Mike) and Kathy Rutledge (Jack Arnold); several great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, Bookie Wilson (Judge), Anne Ronald (Peter), Catherine Trentham (Matthew), Carolyn Duncan (Charles), Betty Schroeder (Roger) and Ella Louise Parks of Richmond.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. with the funeral service conducted at noon, Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Danville with Dr. Jerry Shepard officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Richmond Cemetery.
