MOUNT VERNON —
Dr. Jack Douglas “Doc” Lewis, 77, born April 22, 1935, in Leslie County, Ky., departed this life on January 23, 2013, for a better world. He passed while listening to his favorite music, with his wife, his caregivers, and his dog at his side.
Dr. Lewis graduated from Berea Foundation School, Berea College (1956) and the University of Louisville School of Medicine (1960). After interning at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kan., Dr. Lewis practiced medicine in Mt. Vernon and Berea, for many years. Dr. Lewis also practiced in Lexington, before retiring in 2000.
A brilliant musician, “Doc” led the student orchestra at Berea College and was for many years a fixture of the Renfro Valley stage, playing steel guitar and saxophone.
Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Reed Lewis; father John Lewis; mother Nora Morgan Lewis; sister June Lewis Calhoon, brothers James, John and Joseph Lewis.
He leaves behind: wife Rebecca Hollen Lewis, daughter Lisa Clontz (John), daughter Julie Huey (Shane), son Jack (Shelley), and stepsons Richard and Brad Adams.
Dr. Lewis is also survived by his sister, Joy Lewis Hughes; and six granddaughters, Lauren Blair (William), Victoria Clontz, Lance Corporal Morgan Palmer, Samantha Huey, Ashley Adams and Olivia Adams, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, former patients and friends.
Dr. Jack Lewis touched many lives and made a tremendous difference to the health of people in Southeastern Kentucky.
A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday, January 26, at 2 p.m. (visitation from 11 a.m.) with arrangements by Dowell & Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Cleveland “June” Perkins Jr., 87, husband of 63 years to Ima Jean Horn Perkins, died Monday, May 20, 2013.
He was born April 25, 1926, in Madison County, Ky., the son of the late Cleveland Perkins Sr., and Lena Lowery Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the Fountain Park Church of God. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in WWII and served as constable in the 8th district from 1957-1961. -

She was born on May 6, 1931, in Berea, Kentucky, and lovingly raised by her paternal grandparents, Ella and Harry Lamb. She was the daughter of the late Harrison Oswald Lamb who died when Betty was a child. -
