Verle Hudson Cable, 87

Formerly of Richmond

RICHMOND — Verle Hudson Cable, 87, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, formerly of Richmond, widower of Frankie Shadoan Cable, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Heritage Healthcare in Blue Ridge, Ga.  

Mr. Cable was born March 25, 1925, in Avon (Fayette County), Ky., the son of the late Millard and Josephine Dee Cotton Cable.

He served as a Marine in World War II in the Radar Corps, in Jacksonville, Fla., and Cherry Point, N.C. He was a dedicated and passionate farmer for 65 years, managing the Hangar Estate for over 50 years. As a past president and board member of Madison County Farm Bureau, he was dedicated to serving the needs of farmers in Madison County.

He was a 48 year member and deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church as well as a member of its Friendship Bible Class. In Blue Ridge, Ga.. he was a member of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church.

A life-long Kentucky Wildcats fan, family members fondly remember his early years of cheering on the Cats, whether it be around the radio listening to the play by play of Caywood Ledford or Sunday nights watching Uncle Adolph Rupp and Tom Hammond on the Baron’s weekly television show.

Survivors include: a daughter. Judy Cable Cheyne (Don) of Blue Ridge, Ga..; a son, Joe Cable (Mary Joyce) of Cary, N.C.; two granddaughters, Pam Boutin (Mike) of Sugar Hill, Ga., and Karen Saldivia (Jorge) of Alpharetta, Ga.; a great-granddaughter, Alexa Saldivia; and great-grandsons Cole and Jake Boutin.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenton Cable of Versailles.

Funeral services will be conducted 1p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. John McCord and Bro. Bill Fort officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Lexington, Ky.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Pallbearers will Mike Boutin, Jorge Saldivia, Robert Luxon, Tim Edwards, Scott Althauser and Evan McCord.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Bible Class of the First Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to Hospice of Blue Ridge, Ga., for their care during his final days.

    He was born April 12, 1926, in Rockcastle County to Charles and Pearl Day Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hutchinson Thacker, and one daughter, Brenda Kay Dargavell.
