Orvin Earnest, 82

Richmond

RICHMOND — Orvin C. “Buster” Earnest, 82, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, in Baptist Health-Richmond.

 He was born May 31, 1930, in Berea, to the late Carlos and Lillian Robinson Earnest. He graduated from Madison High School and attended Eastern Kentucky University prior to going into the military. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was for many years a self-employed business owner and operator.

Many of the venues involved dry cleaning, glass and framing, and carpet cleaning, to name a few.

 Buster had been an affiliate of the former Croucher-Marcum Auto Sales and Bluegrass Ace Hardware of Richmond. He was a member of the Richmond Church of Christ.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Georgia Cecil Earnest and sister, Joyce E. Turpin.

 Buster is survived by his wife, Janice Koger Earnest of Richmond; one daughter, Carla (Larry) Cormney of Richmond; two sons, Bill (Theta) Earnest of Richmond and Jeff (Debbie) Earnest of Corbin; three step-sons, Chris (Kelly) Brown, Patrick Brown and Michael Brown, all of Richmond; five grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Davis, Jarred Earnest, Stephanie (Zach) Young, Stephen Earnest and Seth Earnest.

 In addition, he leaves three step grandchildren, Carson, Laura and Katie Brown, and two great grandchildren, Wyatt Davis and Olivia Young.

 A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Hall officiating and assisted by Bro. Paul Rominger. Burial will follow at the Richmond Cemetery, with military honors observed. Friends will be received from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

 Pallbearers will be Bill Earnest, Jeff Earnest, Larry Cormney, Jarred Earnest, Stephen Earnest and Seth Earnest. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris, Patrick and Michael Brown, Coleman Turpin, Joe Koger and Gary Koger.

 Memorials may be made in his honor to the Richmond Church of Christ Vision Fund, 1500 Lancaster Road, Richmond, Ky. 40475.

    He was born April 12, 1926, in Rockcastle County to Charles and Pearl Day Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hutchinson Thacker, and one daughter, Brenda Kay Dargavell.
