RICHMOND —
Marie Anderson Abney, 93, the widow of Ralph W. Abney, passed away Monday evening, Jan. 7, 2013.
A lifelong resident of Richmond and Madison County, she was born March 7, 1919, to the late William T. and Anna Ingram Anderson.
She graduated from Eastern Kentucky State College in 1941. Following graduation, she taught school for a short time prior to working as an administrative assistant to the Madison County Judge and then at the Blue Grass Army Depot, from which she retired after 30 years of service. Following retirement she spent the next 27 years volunteering for many community organizations, including the Pattie A. Clay Hospital and Open Concern, as well as working part time for H&R Block.
For over 60 years, she was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Order of the Eastern Star.
An avid sports fan, she followed the sports teams of EKU, UK and her grandson and great-grandson. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who thoroughly enjoyed life and cherished her fellowship with family and friends.
She is survived by: two sons, Gary C. Abney, chairman of the Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents, and William “Bill” Abney (Bev); grandchildren, Susan Abney Creamer (Philip), Brian C. Abney (Jennifer), Melanie and Leah Hart; great-grandchildren, Justin and Chloe Creamer; one sister, Virginia A. Browning, and daughter Lee; nephew Ralph E. Hacker (Marilyn); great-niece Heather Marie Reilly (Danny); great-great-niece Collins Marie Reilly; and an additional number of nieces and nephews, great- and grand-nieces and nephews as well as special family friend Adrienne Millett and family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the First Christian Church of Richmond, with Dr. Glenn Birkett and Dr. Robert Vickers officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be Brian Abney, Philip Creamer, Dan Reilly, Charles Hudson, Gillis Ashley and Danny Reynolds.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Jennings, members of the Order of The Eastern Star, the Richmond Lodge No. 25, and members of the First Christian Church Circle Numbers 4 & 6 and the Turley Bible Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice Compassionate Care Center, 350 Isaacs Lane, Richmond, KY 40475 or the First Christian Church, Capitol Campaign Fund, PO Box 216, Richmond, KY 40476.

Cleveland “June” Perkins Jr., 87, husband of 63 years to Ima Jean Horn Perkins, died Monday, May 20, 2013.
He was born April 25, 1926, in Madison County, Ky., the son of the late Cleveland Perkins Sr., and Lena Lowery Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the Fountain Park Church of God. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in WWII and served as constable in the 8th district from 1957-1961. -

She was born on May 6, 1931, in Berea, Kentucky, and lovingly raised by her paternal grandparents, Ella and Harry Lamb. She was the daughter of the late Harrison Oswald Lamb who died when Betty was a child. -
