Fairy L. Cornelius, 91


Fairy L. Cornelius was born February 6, 1918, in East Bernstadt, Ky., in Laurel County. She departed this life Thursday, June 25, 2009, and went to be with the Lord. She was 91 years of age.

She was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Maggie Lewis Cornelius.

She is survived by: two sisters, Edna Cornelius Banks of Richmond, Ky., and Sara Cornelius Bowling of London, Ky. In addition to her parents, Fairy also was preceded in death by: her brothers, Harold, Russell, James L., Robert and Charles.

She graduated from Mt. Zion, Letter Box, Berea High and Berea College. She taught school for a few years in Laurel County and worked for the government for 36 years in Washington, D.C. She was in the Army and Navy for three years, which took her overseas. After retiring from the government, she sold real estate for a few years.

She belonged to the Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., where she was an active member until she became disabled.

Seven years ago, Fairy returned to Kentucky to be near her family for her remaining years.

Fairy leaves a host of nephews, nieces and friends to mourn her passing. She was always an example to her brothers, sisters, loved ones and friends.

Services will be conducted at House-Rawlings Funeral Home in London, Ky., Sunday, June 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. Bro. Owen Moody from the Richmond House of Prayer will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Cornelius Cemetery in Mt. Zion at the Old Home Place.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. Saturday for family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ed Bowling, David Cornelius, Steve Cornelius, Bob Cornelius, Bill Cornelius, Doug Cornelius and Ken Cornelius.
