Richard D. Howser, 76

Formerly of Lima, Ohio

BEREA — Richard D. Howser, 76, of Oak Meadow Drive in Berea, formerly of Lima, Ohio, passed away Thursday at the Baptist Health hospital in Richmond.

Richard was born in Claridon, Ohio, to the late William B. and Edythe Vanscoy Howser.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, which he served as a military police officer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 254 in Lima, Ohio where he was also a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the First Christian Church in Berea, Kentucky. He was an avid sports enthusiast and refereed many football and basketball games throughout Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister.

He is survived by: his wife, Jettie Mullins Howser; two sons, Tom (Patty) Howser of Berea and Rick (Heather) Howser of Richmond; and one grandson, Austin Howser. Two stepgrandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, one brother of Grove City, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lima, Ohio.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lakes Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ed McCurley officiating.
