Doyle Gentry, 74

RICHMOND — Doyle Gene Gentry, 74, of Berea, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1938 in Felicity, Ohio, the son of the late Oscar and Hallie Stewart Gentry. He was a retired Active Duty 1st Sergeant with the U. S. Army and a retired electrician from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a member of the Viney Fork Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 33.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Smith Gentry; one daughter, Ursula Gentry; a step-son, Lewis Alcorn (Paula); one son-in-law, Jerry Tucker; two sisters, Margie Gentry Baker (Willard) and Alice Faye Gentry Lakes (Wayne); a sister-in-law, Virginia “Jenny” Gentry;  seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Opal Smith Gentry; a daughter, Judy Gentry Tucker; four brothers, James, Vernon, Russell and Raymond Gentry.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in the Gentry Family Cemetery at Speedwell.    

Visitation will be from 5 – 9 p.m. Friday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Mark Gentry, Brent Baker, Wendell Baker, Eric Baker, Tommy Smith and Don Witt. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Baker, Trey Mattingly, Tom Mattingly, Tyler Mattingly, Billy Ray and Danny Creech.

    She was born on March 16, 1926 in Laurel County, the youngest of five children, born to the late William Albert and Nora Bowman Warren.

    He was born April 12, 1926, in Rockcastle County to Charles and Pearl Day Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hutchinson Thacker, and one daughter, Brenda Kay Dargavell.
