John E. Allen Jr., 87, husband of Ruth Allen, died Tuesday Oct. 23, 2012 at the St. Joseph Berea Hospital. John is retired from GM Manufacturing in Dayton, Ohio, and is a member of the White Lick Baptist Church. John loved to garden and sold his vegetables at the Berea Farmers Market until his health declined last year. John was preceded in death by his parents John E. Allen Sr. and Annie Nelson Allen.

John is survived by his wife Ruth Harris Allen of Berea, his son John L. Allen of Berea, his daughters Linda Curtis of Miamisburg, Ohio and Rita (Douglas) Goins of Richmond, his sisters Ruth McCracken of Berea and Barbara Queener of Williamsburg and grandchildren Stacey Curtis and Robert Goins and great-grandchild Tristen Curtis. Funeral services will be Friday Oct. 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating, burial in the Cartersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday after 1 a.m. until service time. Online register book at www.lakesfuneralhome.com.

He was born April 12, 1926, in Rockcastle County to Charles and Pearl Day Thacker, both of whom preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Hutchinson Thacker, and one daughter, Brenda Kay Dargavell.
