MILTON, Fla. —
Dr. James Ira Salter Jr., 87, of Milton, Fla., passed away peacefully with his loving daughter at his side on November 15, 2012. Dr. Salter, a retired ObGyn, practiced in Mt. Sterling, Ky., Fairfield, Ohio, and most recently Richmond, Ky., where he greatly enjoyed his partnership with Dr. J. Michael Gordon until his retirement.
He grew up in Birmingham, Ala, and after graduation from high school attended Berea College in Ky. During WWII he served as platoon officer in the Philippines and was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After departing from the service, he returned to Berea College and met the love of his life, Mary Lou Haigler, and graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He attended University of Louisville Medical School and then entered medical practice specializing in ObGyn. He delivered more than 5,000 infants during his career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ira Salter Sr. and Myrie Owen Salter of Milton, Fla.
Survivors include: his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Lou (Haigler) Salter; son James Gregory Salter; daughter Cindy (Jim) Grimes; brothers Bill (Helen) Salter, John Salter and Edwin (Marie) Salter; sisters Martha (Ohlen) Wilson and JoAnn (Dewie) Pitman; grandsons James (Aricka), Eric, Aaron; three great-grandsons; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Serviced and burial were in Milton, Fla.
