RICHMOND —
Shelby Carr Griggs, 75, of Richmond, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in his home.
He was born Aug. 30, 1937, in Madison County, to G. B. Griggs and Elizabeth Singer Elson, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Griggs was a former IBM employee and had worked at ACE Hardware, Adams Buick GMC dealership, as well as, the Soil Conservation Office – Madison County District. He served on the Kirksville Water Association Board and was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Griggs is survived by his wife, Helen Worrell Griggs; one daughter, Sarah Plett (Andrew) of Vancouver, Wash.; one son, Ryan Griggs (Jodi) of Richmond; two brothers, W. T. Griggs and Mason Griggs (Virginia), both of Richmond; three grandchildren, Adam, Breanna, and Alycia and his mother-in-law, Ada Worrell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Steve Griggs.
Services for Mr. Griggs will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, with Bro. Scott Guiley officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Griggs, Steve Worrell, Wayne Worrell, Terry McCracken, Andrew Plett and Stacy Curtis.
Visitation will be Saturday after 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, Ky. 40403.
