John “Johann” Ballinger, 86, of Berea, Ky., passed away January 31, 2013, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
John was born in the Wildie section of Rockcastle County, Kentucky, to the late John and Annas Ballinger.
He is a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corp and retired from the United States Army in 1966.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: four brothers, Russell Ballinger, William “Tony” Ballinger, Alfred “Al” Ballinger, Lloyd “Wayne” Ballinger; and three sisters Tabitha Ballinger, Rilda “Francis” Baker, Beatrice “Minnie” Huff.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 58 years, Rita Klubertanze Ballinger; his special niece and nephew Anita Baker and Jack Baker; loving great-niece and nephew Kimberly Baker Shaffer and Bryan Anthony Baker; his three special great-great-nephews, Jason “Blake” Harold, Charles “Josh” Baker and little Matthew “ Matt Rat” Baker. He is also survived by his special care givers, Carrie Lynn Baker, David Shaffer, Emily Clark, Rita Baker Singleton; and special friend Regina King. Many other nieces and nephews, from Kentucky, Illinois, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio to Germany, also survive.
He loved his family, the United States and the United States Army. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday February 4, 2013, at Lakes Funeral Home with Rev. Jonas Hill officiating. Burial will full military honors will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care Center or St. Clare Building Fund.
