Hamdy Kemp, 85

BEREA — Hamdy Norman Kemp, 85, of Berea, passed away Christmas Eve, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Thomas Earl Kemp, in 2009.

Hamdy was the science librarian at Berea College for 34 years, retired in 1998. She was an active member of Union Church, a volunteer for the Berea Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years and had a servant’s heart in everything in which she participated.

She is survived by: two sons, George Kemp and Lee Kemp (Melissa) and three grandsons, Stephen Kemp, Parker Kemp and Hudson Kemp, all of Lexington; three sisters, Jeannette Starnes (Henry) of Great Falls, S.C., Nora Norman of Charlotte, N.C., and Jerri Long of Rock Hill, S.C.; niece Cindy Davis (Eric) and great-niece Elizabeth of Greenville, S.C.; nephew Hank Starnes (Tammy); and great-nephew Clayton Starnes of Great Falls, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Union Church, 200 Prospect Street, Berea, KY 40403 or to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

A celebration of Hamdy’s life will be Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Union Church, 200 Prospect Street in Berea. Davis & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Do you support the Richmond City Commission’s proposal to fund three additional firefighters by taking $100,000 originally planned as capital outlay for city parks and another $110,000 by not restoring the uniform allowance for police officers and firefighters?

Yes. The firefighting force was stretched dangerously thin.
