Burdett “Birdie” Blevins, 71, of Richmond, the husband of Susan Blevins, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born in Madison County, Ky., on December 12, 1937, to the late Elias and Mary (Harris) Blevins. Mr. Blevins was a retired employee of IBM and loved to fish and play golf and was a 42-year member of the Madison County Country Club. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid UK Big Blue fan. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Tates Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one sister and five brothers. He is survived by: his loving wife, Susan; one son, Michael Blevins; one sister, Opal Sumner of North Carolina; and one brother, Ralph Blevins.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Huffman officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be later.
Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Buddy Stone, Brian Whittaker, Bud Carr, Doug Tudor and Hubert Broaddus. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerome Tudor, Kenny Wilson, Charlie Jenkins, Charles Hacker, Stafford Nelson, Bobby Baldwin, Buddy Roberts, Al Tribble, Rondall Durham and Frank Coleman.
