George York, 90, of Bluegrass Drive, went to meet with the Lord, Monday, July 6, 2009. He is the widower of Mary V. Long York.
George was born September 8, 1918, in Rockcastle County, to the late Grant and Nellie Rector York. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and then retired from the Blue Grass Army Depot. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by: three daughters, Shirley Reams of Waco, Georgia (Wayne) Noland of Berea and Linda Liford of Hazard; seven grandchildren, Gary Douglas (MariAnne) Reams, Donna J. Reams, Eddie (Sherri) Reams, Tina (Stephen) Robinson, Tammy Tipton, Dwayne (Jennifer) Hacker and George Robert Hacker; six great grandchildren; one brother, John (Pauline) York; three sisters, Dolly Powell, Pearl (Ray) Kelly and Beatrice Hendricks; and daughter-in-law, Alice York. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
He also is preceded in death by his only son, Jimmy W. York; three brothers: Sam, Tommy and Lewis York; and five sisters, Emma Kelly, Ella Mae Bowlin, Mary Ann Rhodus, Viola Conn and Janie Creech.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Owen Moody officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his son-in-law, Wayne Noland, four grandsons, Gary Douglas Reams, Eddie Reams, George Robert Hacker and Dwayne Hacker, and his nephew, Howard York.
