Sarah Cates, 70

Sarah “Sue” Jones Cates, 70, of Ellis Court, Richmond, widow of Elihue “Boodle” Cates, went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 6, 2009.

She was born in Richmond, Ky., on August 28, 1938, to the late Vardy and Georgia Crowe Jones. She was former cook at Foley Middle School and was a member of the Kirksville Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Scott (Kim) Cates; one daughter, Susan (Roger) Hendricks; four grandchildren, Rodney Hendricks, Justin Hendricks, Whitney Cates Keene (Tyler) and Sherri Cates Leach (Brandon); one great-grandchild, Haylee Leach; a very special sister-in-law, Helen Estes; several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Virgil Layton and Doris Lapeer, also several close friends at Willis Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Butch Pennington and Bro. Shelby Cates officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry York, Mike Estes, Danny Cates, Melvin Cates, Roger Rhodus, Justin Hendricks and Rodney Hendricks.

    Robert was born in Utica, N.Y., to the late Jerry and Ada Waite Lewis.
