Southern cruises to 4-1 win over Pulaski

RICHMOND — The Madison Southern boys soccer team got a lightning-shortened 4-1 win Tuesday over visiting Pulaski County.

The Eagles (4-3-1) built a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Brent Ramsey and Alex Sipple. Ramsey’s goal came in the 16th minute and Sipple’s followed two minutes later.

The Eagles looked to be on cruise control, but Pulaski (5-3) got a late, first-half goal. The shot was just one of two the Maroons put on goal the entire game. The Eagles had 17 shots on goal.

Southern stretched the lead back out with a strong start to the second half. Ramsey scored his second goal of the game seven minutes in. A minute later, T.K. Hellerd scored to give the Eagles a 4-1 advantage.

There the score stayed. The game was called with 23 minutes remaining because of lightning. The completed half gives the Eagles their fourth win of the season.

The Eagles are back in action Thursday when Woodford County (2-2-1) comes to town. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Central-Somerset  game canceled

The scheduled boys soccer game between Somerset and Madison Central Tuesday in Richmond was canceled because of lightning.

No make-up date has been announced.

The Indians are set to return to action Thursday at Danville.
