Richmond native Herald named Player of the Year

RICHMOND — Richmond native Adam Herald picked up another accolade on Saturday.

Herald, who has signed to play golf at Eastern Kentucky University next year, was named Player of the Year in the college mens division of the Musselman-Dunne Tour, just days after winning the tour championship by nine strokes.

The former Madison Central standout won the Musselman-Dunne event at Quail Chase on July 9 and also tied for 45th at the Kentucky Amateur last month at Gibson Bay. Herald has also qualified for the Powerbilt Kentucky Open, which will be held at Lexington Country Club from Aug. 3 through 5.

Herald had 1,612.5 points, beating out his closest competitor, Dustin Gosser, by almost 300 points in the college men division. EKU golfer Danny Bishop finished with 150 points in the division as well.

Richmond native Brad Newnam finished with 345 points in the championship boys division, while Kyle Congleton finished with 205 points. Carter Skipworth finished the year with 400 points in the 12- and 13-year-old boys division as well.

The Kentucky Open is returning to the Lexington Country Club for the first time since 1941.
