Peel qualifies for Ky. Open

RICHMOND — William Peel IV became the latest Richmond native to qualify for the Powerbilt Kentucky Open this week.

Peel shot a 72 in qualifying at the Owensboro County Club on Wednesday. The Kentucky Open will be Aug. 3-5 at the Lexington Country Club.

The Owensboro tournament was the final Kentucky Open qualifier.

Other local golfers who have qualified include: Stuart Witt (with a 73 at Eagle’s Nest on July 13), Sean Moore (with a 70 at Cherry Blossom on July 15), Adam Herald (with a 71 at Cherry Blossom on July 15), Patrick Williams (with a 72 at Cherry Blossom on July 15), Kyle Congleton (with a 73 at Cherry Blossom on July 15), EKU golfer Danny Bishop (with a 73 at Cherry Blossom on July 15) and EKU golfer Brian Fister (72 at Bowling Green Country Club on July 19).

The Kentucky Open is returning to the Lexington Country Club for the first time since 1941. The tournament has been held for 91-straight years and the current defending champion is Florida State golfer and Louisville native Matt Savage.
