RICHMOND —
Last Wednesday, 26 foursomes teed it up in the 11th annual Pattie a. Clay Classic at Arlington.
This great event, presented by Sword, Floyd and Moody, was better this year than ever before. Even though temperatures were high, scores were low, with professional Ryan Martin taking home top honors with an eight-under par, 64.
The day began with a terrific lunch held on the patio and ended with a delicious dinner in the Mule Barn, with lots of golf and fun in between.
At the end of a competitive and fun-filled day, two teams from UK Healthcare tied for the championship with a score of 120. They were the team of (pro) Eric Frichette, Robin Bradley, Joe Claypool and Tim Ward and the team of (pro) Scott Porter, Mike Gowin, William Mitchell and Jim Zembrodt.
Third-place honors went to the PMD Corporation/Neace Lukens Insurance team of Adam Gary, Bud Carr, John Kernohan and Steve Strunk with a 123.
In the special events Raymond Jackson, M.D. won the putting contest, Tim Stephens won the longest drive and Jim Bennett won closest to the pin.
In the pro division, Ryan Martin picked up a big chunk of change out of the $10,000 pro purse. His eight-under par 64 was two strokes better than second-place winner Harold Wallace with 66.
Other winners were Trey Bowling and Eric Frichette, 67; Scott Porter, Adam Gary and Don Pollard, 68, and Jamie Frazier 69.

Combs wins Arlington Women’s Invitational
On Saturday, Aug. 28, Anne Combs was the winner of the annual Women’s Invitational at Arlington.
Anne is a very accomplished golfer having won the Women’s State Amateur in 1967, 1974, 1978 and 1983. Another champion golfer, Marsha Bordas, took second-place honors and Carolyn Adcock was third.
In the Net Division of the Championship Flight Kyung Park took first place, Louise Hopper was second and Jennifer Osborne was third.
First Flight results in the Gross Division: First place — Denise Wentz; second place — Melanie Simpson and third place — Cindy Ware. First Flight, Net Division: First place — Peggy Williams, second — Brenda Buntin and third place — Lynda Campbell. Second Flight, Gross Division: First place — Daphna Epperson; second place — Coleen Sydor and third place — Shirley Bradley.
Net Winners: First place — Jenny McNay; second place — Ailyne McGary and third place — Marilyn Cecil.
Congratulations to all you winners and to Anne Combs who brought back that “A” game one more time.

Model girls take second
On Monday, Aug. 30, the Model girls golf team took second place behind Lexington Christian Academy in the All “A” District Tournament at Shady Brook Golf Club.
Teams playing in the tournament were Model, Lexington Christian, Franklin County and Sayre. Lexington Christian was first with 196 and Model second with 202. Stephanie Giacchini tied for medalist honors with a 42. Rebecca McFerson had a 48, Madison Wright, 49, Beth Isco, 63 and Cassidy had a 63.

Better late than never
Please forgive me, Jan Barnes, for not reporting that you won the Arlington Women’s Club Championship back on July 24.
Verda Wylie was second with an 87.
It jogged my memory when I saw your name on the reserved parking space for women’s champ.

I also missed the David Bonn Memorial Industrial Management golf outing on Aug. 11. I ran into Chairman Bob Geiger in CVS and he e-mailed me the results.
On the hottest day of the summer, the clouds rolled in somewhere in the middle of the 4-hour match and made it bearable.
The winning team for the second year in a row, with a sizzling 50, was the Central Bank team of Ken Riley, Tyler Cain, Blake Hamilton and Jeff Fultz. Second was the Sherwin Williams team of Steve Fritz, Jim Johnson, Wayne Orr and Bob Geiger with 52.
Placing third, with a score of 54, was the Delta Natural Gas team with Glenn Jennings, Mike Whitley and Johnny Caudill with 54.
Closest to the pin went to Joey Centers, No. 5; Karen Neubauer, No. 7; Bo King, No. 14, and No. 16 was Ashley McCay.
The 23rd David Bonn Memorial is set for Aug. 10, 2011 and will mark the 23rd year it will have been held at Arlington.
