LITTLE LEAGUE: All-Stars teams pick up wins before rains ends play

RICHMOND — Richmond Little League All-Star teams were able to pick up victories Saturday at Lake Reba before afternoon rain showers brought an end to tournament play.

In the Kentucky State Coach Pitch Tournament, the Madison Express advanced into the winner’s bracket, getting victories over Anderson County (Red) and Western (Lexington). The Madison County Explosion lost its first game, but bounced back with an impressive win over Anderson County (Blue).

In the District 3 Tournament, the Richmond Junior Division (13 and 14-year olds) All-Stars defeated Anderson County 13-0 in the first game of a best of three series. Richmond had a huge lead in the fourth inning when the second game was postponed.

In the District 3 Senior Division Tournament, the Richmond Little League All-Stars rallied late but fell to Anderson County in the first game of a best of three-game series. The second game was postponed.

State Coach Pitch

The Madison Express started off the state tournament with a bang. They scored six times in the first inning and rolled to an 11-6 win over Anderson County (Red) Saturday at Lake Reba.

In the next game, the Express defeated Western (Lexington), 9-5.

The Express had a 3-0 lead over Eastern (Lexington) when that game was postponed. That game will be resumed at 3 p.m. today.

The Madison County Explosion dropped its tournament opener, falling to Marion County, 11-6, Saturday at Lake Reba. The team then picked up a 21-5 win over Anderson County (Blue).

The Explosion was playing Western (Lexington) when all action was postponed. That game will be resumed at 3 p.m. today.

Junior District Tournament

The Richmond All-Stars will be just a few outs away from securing a trip to the state tournament when play resumes today at Lake Reba.

After defeating Anderson County, 13-0, in the tournament opener, Richmond had an 11-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning when rain made the field unplayable.

The game will resumed at 3 p.m. today.

In the first game, Easten Shouse didn’t allow a hit and gave up only three walks as Richmond rolled to a 13-0 five-inning win. Shouse threw just 78 pitches and also scored two runs.

Daniel Wilkerson had two walks and scored twice, Justin Ferris had two singles, a walk and scored twice, Drake Coomer had a triple, a walk and scored a run, Brandon Huntzinger had a single, two walks and scored a run, Tanner Thornsberry scored twice, Sean Felicicchia had two walks and scored a run and Gary Wooten had a walk and scored a run.

Richmond scored twice in the first inning, then took control with seven runs in the third.

Senior District Tournament

The Richmond All-Stars kept battling back, still never could take control Saturday against Anderson County at Lake Reba.

Richmond scored three times in the bottom of the seventh but had the would-be tying run thrown out at the plate as Anderson County held on for a 12-11 win.

Anderson County never trailed, building leads of 2-1, 9-4 and 12-8.

Ben Dantic had a double and two singles, Drew Harmon had a double, Kendan Angel had two singles and a double, Tenny Akihary had a double, Michael Kendrick had a double and a single, Dalton Ward had a single and two walks and Crea Knight had a single.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Lake Reba.
