RICHMOND —
The Eastern Kentucky University basketball teams are back in action today looking to extend their winning streaks.
Both teams have won two straight.
The woman play at 1 p.m. at Miami (Ohio) University, while the men are home to face Georgia Southern at 7 p.m.
EKU vs. Georgia Southern
When the Colonels traveled to Georgia Southern last year it was a fast-paced high-pressure game won by EKU, 79-73.
The Eagles run a full-court press the entire game and the Colonels have spent part of this week going full-court in practice in preparation for the pressure.
EKU (5-5) is 2-0 at home this season, having won their last two games, beating Brescia (107-43) and North Carolina Central (75-62).
Senior Jaron Jones is coming off a career-high 30 points on Tuesday against North Carolina Central and leads the Colonels in scoring at 12.4 points per game.
Junior Mike DiNunno is scoring 10.3 points per game and has averaged 3.2 assists.
Freshman Eric Stutz is averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds, senior Joshua Jones 9.6 points and junior D’Mitri Riggs 8.7 points.
Georgia Southern is 3-4 this season, but has won two straight, beating Chattanooga (84-76) and Appalachian State (73-62).
Sophomore guard Eric Ferguson (6-7) leads the Eagles, averaging 16 points and 7.3 rebounds. Three other players are averaging in double figures — 5-10 senior guard Ben Drayton III (12.4 points), 6-2 sophomore guard Jelani Hewitt (12.1) and 6-2 senior guard Willie Powers (10.6).
The Eagles play in the Southern Conference.
EKU at Miami (Ohio) University
The Lady Colonels started the year 2-5, but have won two straight, beating Chicago State (67-56) and Belmont (60-46).
Sophomore Marie Carpenter leads the Lady Colonels in scoring at 13.4 points per game.
Carpenter is shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range.
Junior Alex Jones is averaging 10 points and 7.4 rebounds and junior Jade Barber 9.8 points and eight rebounds.
Junior point guard Raechele Gray is averaging 7.9 points and 3.3 assists and junior Brittany Coles is scoring seven points per game.
MIami (Ohio) is 4-3 this season.
The Lady RedHawks play in the Mid-American Conference, which also features Western Michigan, a team EKU beat 70-61.
Miami (Ohio) has been led by junior guard Courtney Osborn (5-10) who averages 16.7 points per game and sohomore guard Hannah Robertson (5-8) who is scoring 10.4 points per game.
