EKU FOOTBALL:Fox honored by OVC

RICHMOND — In the past two seasons, Brooklyn Fox has nine interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Still, the senior is yet to be able to convert one of the turnovers into a touchdown.

He almost accomplished that goal on Saturday at Southeast Missouri State.

Fox picked off Redhawk quarterback Scott Lathrop in the first quarter and returned the interception 59 yards to the SEMO 16-yard line.

“I tried. I came up a little short,” Fox said after the game. “I wanted one so bad. I came up short, but it put the offense in a good position.”

Fox also recovered a fumble as the Colonels (7-3, 5-2 OVC) rolled to a 31-7 win in Cape Girardeau. Mo. The senior also had four tackles and on Sunday Fox was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week.

The two turnovers forced by Fox led to 10 EKU points.

The senior defensive back who has been battling turf toe for several weeks has six interceptions on the season, which is the second-best total among FCS players in the country. Fox had two interceptions in the season opener against Purdue and was also named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2.

Fox was part of a defensive unit that held SEMO to its lowest point total of the season and held its leading rusher, Levi  Terrell, to a season-low 57 rushing yards.

The Colonels are set to finish out the regular season Saturday at home against Murray State.
