RICHMOND —
David Gadd, the 12-year-old son of Kendall and Susan Gadd, claimed the Boys 12 Singles Championship title at the USTA Ryan Holder Kentucky State Closed tournament July 26 through 30 in Lexington.
Gadd, a seventh-grader at Berea Community, claimed the title by defeating the No. 1 seed Brandon Chou, 6-1, 7-5, along with a host of other seeded players from around the state.
Gadd and his doubles partner, Corbin Kirksey, of Monticello finished second in the Boys 14 Doubles bracket.
They advanced to the finals by defeating the No. 2 seeded team in the state but came up short with a score of 8-6 in the championship match.
The Ryan Holder State Tournament is named in honor of Ryan C. Holder, a 16 year-old Lexington Dunbar student killed in an automobile accident in 1995. Center Courts at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex at the University of Kentucky are named in his honor.
Gadd’s name will be inscribed as the 2012 Boys 12 Singles Champion on the Ryan Holder Wall of Champions within the University of Kentucky Hilary Boone Tennis Complex.
The tournament hosted a total of 230 players this year.
