Berea can’t solve Pineville

RICHMOND — The Berea football team didn’t even touch the football for the first eight minutes of Friday’s contest in Pineville.

And it didn’t get much better from there as the Pirates lost 48-14 on the road.

Berea (1-2) fumbled the opening kickoff, allowing the Mountain Lions to take an early lead. And Pineville kept that pressure on, forcing six Berea turnovers.

Despite the four interceptions and a pair of fumbles, Kenan McWhorter liked his offense when it held on to the ball.

The Pirates had a big hole to climb out of in the second half, though, as they trailed the Mountain Lions 34-6.

Berea got two touchdowns. One from a  7-yard Darius Whitaker touchdown run. The Pirates also got a score from Eli woody who caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown.

But the scores were too little to overcome a lead built primarily on the ground. McWhorter said Pineville attempted just two pass plays, instead opting to run the ball.

Berea looks to snap the two-game skid when the Pirates travel to Nicholas County (2-1) next Friday.
