RICHMOND —
Madison Central’s Morgan Lakes, Summer Spillman and Caroline Smith each claimed individual titles at the Region 5 Swim Meet Saturday at Eastern Kentucky University.
Lakes finished first in the 200 IM, beating out Spillman (who finished second) by more than a second. Spillman took the title in the 100 breaststroke and Smith won the 100 free.
Led by those first-place performances, Central finished fourth overall with 277 points. Dunbar dominated the event, racking up 559 points. Henry Clay was second (329) and LCA was third (312).
Model finished eighth (110 points), Berea Community was 18th (eight points) and Madison Southern was 21st (two points).
Smith, Lakes and Spillman were all named to the All-Region Team. They will all advance to the upcoming state meet in Louisville.
Lakes also took third in the 500 free and Smith finished fifth in the 200 free.
That trio also combined to post two strong relay performances. Lakes, Smith, Spillman and Molly Ford finished third in the 200 medley relay. Ford, Lakes, Spillman and Smith also finished third in the 400 freestyle.
Central’s other relay team — Tilly Baldwin, Eliza Miller, Loren Collins and Hadley Neal — finished eighth in the 200 freestyle.
Ford finished fifth in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 free.
Justine Schwartz posted the top individual results for the Model girls. She took sixth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 free.
On the boys side, Madison Central’s Chase Baldwin finished third in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 IM. Central’s Alex Linkenheld was second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free.
Central took fourth in the 200 medley relay and third in the 200 free relay.
Model took seventh in the 200 medley relay, fourth in the 200 free relay and fifth in the 400 free relay.
Model’s Matt Robbins finished fifth in the 50 free and 10th in the 100 free.
The state swim meet is set for Feb. 23-25 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.

44th District baseball, softball postponed
The opening games of the 44th District softball and baseball tournament did not make it out of the second inning Monday evening before the teams were forced off the field.
Both games were later postponed because of rain and lightning. -
BOWLING: Cracraft leads the way at Galaxy
The top scores bowled at Galaxy last week were a 269 game by Matt Cracraft in the Monday Mixed League and a 719 series by Randy Burgess Sr. in the non-sanctioned Wednesday Summer League.
