H.S. SOCCER: Lady Indians take title

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — After picking up two wins Saturday at the Kentucky Bank Labor Day Classic, the Lady Indians faced a championship showdown Sunday with Scott High School.

And Madison Central once again delivered another solid performance.

The Lady Indians (8-1) wrapped up the two-day tournament with a 4-2 win at Bourbon County High School. Central went undefeated in the event (3-0) and scored at least three goals in each game.

“We were definitely the best team there,” Central coach Chris Dunham said. “Were in control for most of the (championship) game. Our defense held strong.”

Scott High School had also won two games on Saturday, but Central jumped on top right away, scoring twice in the opening minutes.

Leeanne Ogle had the first goal, then Maryssa Stewart scored twice and Abby Helwig added a goal.

Five Central players were named to the All-Tournament team — Sarah Franklin, Kristin Parsley, Dani Parsley, Emily Willoughby and Stewart.

On Saturday, Central defeated Ashland Blazer, 3-2, and Bourbon County, 3-1.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at home against Model.
