Lady Indians bounce back with win over Creek
The Lady Indians bounced back from a disappointing loss with a solid victory Wednesday at the Titans Christmas Clash in Harrodsburg.
Larryn Brooks and Jenna Cornelison each had 10 points as Madison Central used a second-half surge to defeat Tates Creek, 56-44. The Lady Commodores had a one-point lead (22-21) at the half, but the Lady Indians (13-1) shot 51 percent in the second half and pulled away.
“We came out of the gate a little slow,” Central coach Robbie Cooksey said. “We were just kind of barely hanging on. We came out and played much better in the second half.”
Central will take on either Paducah Tilghman or Bardstown at 11:30 a.m. today in the tournament’s fifth-place game.
The Lady Indians opened the season with 12-straight wins, but fell to Nelson County on Tuesday in the Titans Christmas Clash quarterfinals.
Following that loss, Central didn’t play well in the first half against Tates Creek. The Lady Indians shot just 34 percent and had 10 turnovers.
Central stormed back after halftime, hitting 14-of-27 field goals and out-scoring the Lady Commodores, 35-21.
“I think (shooting) was the big difference (in the first and second half),” Cooksey said.
The Lady Indians defeated Tates Creek earlier this month at home, 57-54, despite being out-rebounded. This time, Central won the battle of the boards, 41-31.
Ashton Feldhaus had nine points and three rebounds, Christina Ciolek had seven points, one rebound and four steals, Brislyn Sizemore had six points and eight rebounds, Kaity Busch had six rebounds and three rebounds and Iesha Farris had four points and three rebounds.
