Bench players Kayla McFarland and Ashley Fowler both turned in double-digit scoring performances as the Lady Mountaineers edged the University of Kentucky club team Friday night at the Pepsi Berea Classic at the Seabury Center.
McFarland scored a team-high 22 points off of 6-of-13 shooting as Berea College came away with a 70-66 win, their first of the 2009-10 season.
Fowler added 12 points, while Katie Bailey scored seven. Normal contributors Annbruce Madden, Heather Hutchins and Meagan Downs were ineffective, only scoring 10 points together.
UK’s Chelsea Chowning had a game-high 24 points off of 5-of-21 shooting and 11-of-15 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Mountaineers (1-3) led 38-32 at halftime and shot 37 percent from the floor for the game. They were outrebounded, 50-48, while committing 28 turnovers to UK’s 30.
Berea will return to action against Lindsey Wilson today in the Berea Classic. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Seabury Center.
