The Madison Central swim team continued its winning ways Wednesday, moving to 3-0 on the season after picking up impressive wins over Henry Clay and Lexington Christian.
Central topped Henry Clay, 118-66 overall, 56-34 in boys and 52-32 in girls. The Indians also prevailed over LCA, 125-51 overall, 54-29 in boys and 71-22 in girls.
The Indian relay teams were once again a big strength. The girls 200 medley relay team of Rikki Babuka, Summer Spillman, Molly Ford and Olivia Smith took first, as did the boys 200 medley relay of Chase Baldwin, Alex Grise, Dallas Merrill and John Dunlap.
The girls 200 freestyle relay team of Spillman, Babuka, Smith and Caroline Smith won their race, beating the next-closest squad by eight seconds.
The 400 freestyle relay squads (Caroline Smith, Morgan Lakes, Ford and Alexandria Rogers for the girls and the boys team of John Babuka, Baldwin, Nolan Batch and Merrill) also won their respective events.
Spillman led the girls, placing first in the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Ford also won the 50 freestyle, Caroline Smith and Lakes finished as the top two in the 200 freestyle and Rikki Babuka won the 100 breaststroke for the girls team.
In boys competition, John Babuka won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Merrill won the 50 freestyle by a mere .06 seconds, and also claimed victory in the 100 freestyle. Baldwin placed second in the 100 backstroke for Central as well, and Alex Grise finished just behind LCA’s Andrew Hoagland in the 100 breaststroke.
Central tops Model
For the first time since 1994, the Madison Central swim team defeated Model Laboratory in dual meet.
The Indians slipped past the Patriots 174-161 Tuesday at the Telford YMCA in Richmond.
Central also picked up a 100-68 victory in the girls competition, while Model earned a 93-74 victory in the boys team competition.
Summer Spillman led the Central girls squad, taking first in the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay squad, along with Olivia Smith, Rikki Babuka and Molly Ford.
Also posting first-place finished for the Central girls were Caroline Smith in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Rikki Babuka in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team of Caroline and Olivia Smith, Morgan Lakes and Babuka.
