Rudy Evans scored a game-high 23 points, but a balanced attack helped Transylvania picked up a 77-66 win over Berea College Tuesday at the Seabury Center.
The Pioneers (1-1) had four starters reach double-figures in scoring, led by Tim Tierny (18 points) and Matthew Parton (16 points).
The loss snapped Berea’s two-game winning streak and drops the team’s record to 3-2 on the season.
Transy shot just 37 percent in the first half, but still went into the break with a 37-34 lead.
The Pioneers shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half, while Berea shot just 28 percent (12-of-43).
Berea was just 5-of-20 from three-point range, but won the rebound battle (43-38) and forced 20 turnovers.
Senior Mikah Turner scored 12 points before being ejected late in the second half after being assessed two technical fouls.
Rodney Goodson had seven points for Berea, Prince Stewart and Kevin Burrus each had six points and Chase Wofford added five points.
The Mountaineers are set to return to action Thursday at Kentucky Christian College.
Lady Mountaineers fall at Lincoln Memorial
Annbruce Madden had a team-high 12 points as the Berea College women’s basketball suffered a 91-52 loss to Lincoln Memorial University Tuesday in Harrogate, Tenn.
With the loss, the Lady Mountaineers slip to 2-4 on the season.
Megan Downs had 11 points, Kayla McFarland had nine points and Raven Hunt added six points and six rebounds. Berea was outrebounded 58-35, had 24 turnovers and never led.
The Lady Mountaineers shot only 30 percent (21-of-69) and were five-of-25 from three-point range.
Emily Hinkson had six points and Heather Hutchins added three points.
The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action this week in the Berea College Classic.
