Berea rolls past OSU-Mansfield


The Berea College men’s and women’s basketball team rolled to lopsided Homecoming wins over OSU-Mansfield Saturday at the Seabury Center.

The Mountaineers (3-1) picked up a 151-75 win, while the Lady Mountaineers (2-3) cruised to a 119-43 win.

In the men’s game, eight players reached double figures, including a team-high 22 points by Chase Wofford. Kevin Burrus had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Mikah Turner added 19 points and Rudy Evans, Will Barber and Alex Hinton each had 16 points.

Berea jumped out to a 75-35 lead at halftime and outrebounded OSU Mansfield 83-35. The Mountaineers shot 62 percent from the floor, had 33 assists and forced 24 turnovers.

Rodney Goodson had 13 points and 11 rebounds, Josh Clark had 11 points and nine rebounds and Evans added nine assists.

The Mountaineers are set to return to action Tuesday at home against Transylvania.

In the women’s game, six players reached double figures as the Lady Mountaineers snapped a two-game losing streak.

Berea jumped out to a 69-18 lead at the half and shot 54 percent from the floor, including 52 percent (10-of-19) from three-point range.

Emily Hinkson had a team-high 13 points, while Heather Hutchins and Ashley Sumpter finished with 12 points each. Raven Hunt had 11 points and Megan Downs, Kayla McFarland and Tiffany Yates each had 10 points.

The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial.
