Madison Southern scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t overcome a big deficit and fell to Estill County, 42-40, Friday in Berea.
Rico Brown had five touchdowns as the Eagles wrapped up the season with a fifth-straight loss.
For the fourth-straight season, Southern does not qualify for the playoffs.
The Eagles (1-9) led after the first quarter, 12-7, off two rushing TDs by Rico Brown — 54 yards and 13 yards.
However, the Engineers fought back, scoring twice in the second quarter to take a 21-12 lead at halftime.
Estill scored first in the third quarter, then Southern scored on a two-yard run by Brown. After Estill took a 35-18 lead, the Eagles began to battle back in earnest. Brown added six more on a four-yard run, which was turned into eight after Carrington Roberts’ pass to Adam Simpson gave the Eagles a two-point conversion.
Brown also scored on a 26-yard run and a 70-yard run, but Estill County’s Kenton Roberts scored the game-winning three-yard score to give the Engineers a win.
