RICHMOND —
Paul Warford’s tumultuous career at the University of Kentucky has apparently come to an end.
First-year coach Joker Phillips said at SEC Media Days on Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala., that the former Madison Central standout did not accumulate enough credit hours to maintain eligibility.
Warford, a senior, played in 11 games last season at cornerback and was expected to once again battle for a starting spot this year. The 5-foot-10, 206-pounder was a two-year starter and had 107 career tackles.
The Kentucky football media guide was released Wednesday and Warford is listed among ‘letttermen lost.’
After a standout career at Madison Central, Warford jumped right into the lineup as a freshman in 2006. But, injuries and academic problems sidelined him the next two years.
Warford took a redshirt season in 2008 after he was ruled academically ineligible.
He also missed two games in 2007 because of a fractured collarbone and missed two more games last season because of a quad muscle strain.
Warford had two interceptions and 16 pass breakups during his career at UK. He played in three bowl games and recovered a fumble in the 2006 Music City Bowl.
Warford was a three-year starter at Madison Central as a running back and defensive back. He helped the Indians win three-straight district titles and was a part of two region runner-up teams.
