All-Stars knocked out of state tourney

RICHMOND — The Richmond All-Stars went out with a bang.

Richmond suffered an 8-6 loss on Wednesday against Ashland after falling, 17-3, earlier in the day to South Laurel in the Kentucky Little League Junior Division State Tournament in Flatwoods.

Richmond went 0-3 in pool play and was eliminated from the tournament.

Against Ashland, the All-Stars quickly fell behind and were down 7-3 after the third inning, but battled back to make the game competitive.

Austin Alexander made a stellar play in the outfield to prevent Ashland from scoring with bases loaded and also scored a run and had an RBI. Alex Georgel pitched but there were several errors behind him.

Griffin Hotchkiss and Brady McBride each had a pair of hits. McBride also scored two runs. Jeremy Lakes, Nick Kavanaugh, Will Nash and Georgel each had hits as well, with Kavanaugh also having a run and an RBI.

In the first game, South Laurel completely dominated Richmond, rolling to a 17-3 victory. Richmond scored one run in the first and two in the third inning and only have five hits.

Lakes, Nash and Hotchkiss each had a hit, with Alexander going 2-for-2. Witt started for Richmond.
