MADISON COUNTY —
Register Staff Report
Back on the court for the first time in almost a week, the Eagles never could get on track Monday at home against Lincoln County.
The Patriots led for most of the game and hit free throws down the stretch to wrap up a 69-55 victory. Senior Tyler Abshear had 24 points to lead Southern, while sophomore guard Damien Harris added 10 points.
“We’ve played two games in two weeks,” Southern coach Shane Buttry said. “We just didn’t come out with a lot of intensity.”
Southern (14-9) hadn’t played since a win over Tates Creek last Tuesday in Berea. The Eagles had scheduled games with Woodford County and Riverside Christian canceled last weekend because of the weather.
Southern was down just seven points and had the ball with two and half minutes left. But, the Eagles couldn’t convert and Lincoln County pulled away at the line.
The Patriots were 13-of-17 from the free throw line. Southern was eight-of-15 from the line.
Spencer Stone had eight points, Trevor Huff had three points and Michael Rothermel added two points.
Southern is set to return to action Friday at Western Hills.
