Sixteen teams teed it up in between raindrops at the Berea Country Club over the weekend in their annual man and woman “Couple’s Tournament.”
The format was nine holes best ball and nine hole alternate shot on Saturday then an 18-hole scramble on Sunday.
In the Championship Flight, two teams tied with terrific nine-under par, 135 for the 36 holes.
The two teams were Nikki Layne/Greg Prater and Tara and Matt Brown. In the sudden-death playoff that ensued, Prater and Layne won the championship on the second extra hole when Nikki hit her shot to a foot from the pin on the par three No. 5 for a birdie and the win.
You da lady!
The First Flight winners were Kim Gilliam and Whitney Maupin with a 138. Second was the team of Barbara Belcher and Kenny Hayes with a 139. The Second Flight winners were Pat and Dan Crawford, 154, who won on a scorecard match over Lynn and Bruce Lainhart who also had 154 and placed second.
In the special events, closest to the pin for the ladies was Leah Baldwin on No. 2, and Josh Bray for the men on No. 5. Long drive for the ladies was Nikki Layne on No. 9, and long drive for the men on No. 9 was Josh Bray, who was a double winner.
On Saturday night, the players enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Master Chef Nikki Layne and the ladies and danced to the music of DJ Anthony Hudson.
Mahalo to me matey, Carolyn Jones, for the info.

Last Saturday, 25 players took to the links at the Battlefield in the first Galaxy Bowling Center Golf Scramble.

The participants in the scramble were awarded free entry in the no-tap bowling tournament on Sunday. The winning team received $400 credit in the Battlefield Pro Shop and the runner-up received $200 credit.
Personable Ray White did a fine job as chairman of this event. Special thanks to head pro Clay Hamrick of Battlefield for the results.
Two holes-in-one at Berea Country Club
Steven Thomason finished up his summer with a hole-in-one on No. 5 at the Berea Country Club on July 30.
He was playing with his father, Mark, and brother, Nick. Steve and Nick left Aug. 2 for Union College where they will be playing football this fall.
Charlie Homa had a hole-in-one on No. 5 on Aug. 2. He was playing with Don Abney and Jim Bowman.
He has had three holes-in-one in his life and this was his second one on this hole.
You da man, Charlie!
Thanks to Harvery Winters
Harvey Winters, who is a fellow member at the Madison Country Club, brought me a golf cap from Vipingo Ridge Country Club located in Kenya, Africa.
Harvey’s job entails a lot of foreign travel and he has played in some out of the way places. He said Vipingo Ridge was a beautiful, well-groomed golf course and he enjoyed it very much.
Mahalo to you for this gift, Harvey.
For his regular Sunday morning game Jack showed up followed by two caddies.
“How come you brought along two caddies today?, asked one of the other golfers.
“The wife thought I wasn’t spending enough time with the kids,” was the reply.
