For the second straight week, the Indians suffered a lopsided loss on the road to one of the top programs in the state.
After falling to Bell County last week, Madison Central (1-2) was handed a 45-3 setback Friday at Newport Central Catholic (0-3). The Indians had just two first downs and finished with just 47 yards of total offense.
The Thoroughbreds raced out to a 28-0 halftime lead and were up 35-0 before Tyler Deaton kicked a 34-yard field goal with 8:18 left in the fourth quarter. The Indians had four turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles) and allowed 437 yards of total offense.
Central was 0-for-9 on third downs, 1-for-2 on fourth downs and had the ball for just 17:23.
Chris Kelly had 84 yards rushing and four touchdowns for NCC. Quarterback Brady Hightchew threw for a touchdown and ran for another and finished with 169 yards passing and 55 yards rushing.
Jamez Chenault had a team-high 16 yards rushing for Central, while Justin Williams had 13 yards on six carries.
Sophomore quarterback Hunter Stocker started and was three-for-10 for 28 yards with two interceptions. He was also sacked twice. Tucker Fair was two-for-six for 12 yards. Justin Fritz had three catches for 35 yards.
Central is set to return to action Friday at home against Ballard.
