RICHMOND —
There were five 700 series bowled at Galaxy last week led by a 780 score by John Hickam. Spider Weaver (732), Ron Gugel (732), Neil Haggard (721) and Lewis Jones Jr. (705) also reached this coveted level.
Hickam also rolled the high game for the week with a 289 score in the Galaxy Classic League.
Regina Barton bowled the top women’s scores for the week with a 247 game and 671 series in the GCL.
Women’s City Tourney this weekend
The Madison County Women’s Bowling Association’s annual city tournament will be contested Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. each day.
There will be singles, doubles and team competition. The entry fee is $15 per event. Bowlers can enter the all events competition for an additional $2.
Charity event Saturday
Everyone is invited to participate in a charity bowling event at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The net proceeds will be used to benefit the youth programs of the Lexington Road Church of God.
The 3-6-9 and no-tap formats will be used. Bowlers are awarded free strikes in the third, sixth and ninth frames and nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike.
The cost is $10 to bowl three games. Prizes will be awarded.
League Highlights
Galaxy Classic
John Hickam led this league last Monday with a 289 game and 780 series. Spider Weaver rolled the second-best game (278) and he tied Ron Gugel for the second-best series at 732.
Hickam continues to flirt with an 800 series as this is the third time he has bowled a series of 780 or better. His best series this season is 794.
There were 18 600-level series bowled at this session. The highest 600 series were bowled by Brandon Lutes (691), substitute Tyler Morgan (684), Aaron Rose (678), David Norman (676), Neil Haggard (675), Ron Roberts (674), Regina Barton (671), Bill Bowles (657), Brandon Simpson (653) and Lewis Jones Jr. (650).
Mike E. Bryant (638), Todd Young (633), Daniel Benge (627), Shawn Barton (624), Mark Rogers (622), Joe Reichel (621), Ronnie Hurd (615) and Glenn Masters (612) also reached the 600 series level.
Galaxy Girls
The top games in this league last Tuesday were 194 by Narita Rose and 190 by Tammy Fourre.
Rose bowled the top series score (549), followed by Fourre and Linda Combs at 500 each.
Donna Haney picked up a 5-7 split.
Arlington
Connie Bowlin led this league last Tuesday with a 196 game and 533 series, followed by Bridget Settles at 182 and 505.
Splits were converted by Bowlin (5-10), Settles (2-7-8 and 3-10) and Dewey Locker (5-7 and 5-7-10).
Wednesday Wonders
The best scores in this league last week were a 266 game and 705 series by Lewis Jones Jr. Woody Arvin rolled the second-best game (246) and Bobby Abrams the second-high series (597).
Pat Holtzclaw led the ladies in the league with a no-miss 207 game and 506 series.
Kymmi Bowles rolled the second-best women’s series (463) and she and Debra Robertson tied for the second-highest game at 158.
Early Birds
Gail Campbell led this league last Wednesday with a 198 game and 544 series.
Beverly Shearer was next in both categories with a 187 game and 500 series.
Splits were converted by Shearer (2-7 and 3-10), Joyce Kearns (3-10) and Sue Hegelmeyer (3-10 and 3-9-10).
Classic Doubles
Steve McKnight led this league last Thursday with a 252 game and 652 series, followed by David Robinson at 199 and 540.
The league’s ladies were led by Beverly Shearer with a 173 game and 466 series. Tina Hisle was second in both categories at 150 and 441.
Russell Jones picked up a 3-10 split.
Friday Night Mixed
Neil Haggard rolled the top scores in this league last week with a 721 series and a 269 game.
Mark Rogers recorded the second-best scores with a 661 series and 258 game. Ron Gugel was not far behind with a series score of 645 and a 244 game.
Novel Davis led the league’s ladies with a 615 series, which included a 215 game and a no-miss 230 game.
Beverly Shearer rolled the next-best women’s scores with a 190 game and 475 series.
TGIF
Al McKnight (220) and Chris VanDall (209) bowled the top games in this league last week, while the best series scores were 570 by Merle Meade and 562 by McKnight.
Sara Zuercher led the women in the league with a 181 game and 454 series, followed by Pat Harris at 176 and 439.
Splits were converted by Rizza VanDall (4-7-9) and Jamie Sowder (3-6-7-10).
Cash Money
Ronnie Norris Jr. (228) and Ronnie Norris Sr. (214) bowled the top games in this league last Monday.
The best series scores were 573 by Norris, Jr. and 570 by J. J. Reisig.
Debra Robertson led the women in the league with a 157 game and 397 series. Mary Mink rolled the second-best game (136) and Carolyn McKnight recorded the second-high women’s series (377).
Bad Bowlers No-tap
Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.
Anthony Taulbee led this league last Tuesday with a 278 game and 739 series. His series score is the high for the league this season.
Gary Cromer (266) and Steve Dickey (262) bowled the next-highest game scores.
A 600 series was rolled by Dickey (660), Ed Maggard (628) and Adam Cromer (613).
April Brumfield led the league’s ladies with a 194 game and 542 series, followed by Pat Taulbee at 158 and 391.
