OVC HOOPS: EKU continues six-game road swing

MADISON COUNTY — The Colonels continue their six-game road swing at 7 p.m. today in Greensboro against North Carolina A&T.

EKU will be looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season, which came Sunday at Illinois.

The Colonels played the No. 10 Fighting Illini tough, trailing by five points at halftime, and were down by only four with less than 10 minutes to play.

Corey Walden had his best performance as a Colonel, scoring a game-high 21 points against the Illini.

Illinois entered the game averaging 11 three-pointers per game and had the 14th-best shooting percentage from behind the arc at 39.6 percent. But the Colonels defense held the Illini to six threes and only 26 percent shooting from three-point range. On the season, EKU is holding its opponents to 29 percent shooting from three-point range.

EKU also forced the Illini into 20 turnovers by the Illini, while turning it over only 10 times. The Colonels are averaging 7.9 fewer turnovers per game than their opponents, which is the best in the OVC and second in the nation behind Louisville.

The Colonels have never played North Carolina A&T, but the Aggies are the fourth Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) EKU has faced this season.

The two teams have one common opponent this year. The Aggies lost to North Carolina Central 66-62, while EKU beat North Carolina Central 63-57 on Dec. 4 in its last trip to the Tar Heel state.

North Carolina A&T averages 64 points per game while allowing 69 points per game.

The Aggies are led by junior guard Lamont Middleton, who averages 13.3 points per game and senior forward Adrian Powell, who averages 11 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
