LITTLE LEAGUE: Express roll into title game

RICHMOND — One Richmond team had its shot at a state title come to an end, but another squad moved one step closer to a championship.

The Madison Express held on a 4-3 win over Eastern (Lexington) Tuesday in the winner’s bracket of the State Coach Pitch Tournament at Lake Reba.

With the win, the Express move into today’s championship game, which is scheduled for 8 p.m.

The Madison Explosion was knocked out of the tournament with a 17-2 loss to Western (Lexington) Tuesday at Lake Reba.

The Explosion finished the tournament with a 1-2 record.

Express keep rolling

The Madison Express picked up two wins on Saturday before rain and poor field conditions forced the State Coach Pitch Tournament to be delayed.

When play resumed on Tuesday, the Express had a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning against Eastern. The Express (3-0) added a run in the fifth, but Eastern answered back in the final inning.

Eastern scored twice and had the would-be tying run cut down at home when catcher Parker Eden tagged out a runner.

Tyler Brook had two doubles and scored twice. Jaeden Coons had three hits and scored a run, while Tanner McIntosh had a double and scored a run in the second.

Explosion fall

Western took care of business quickly against the Madison Explosion Tuesday at Lake Reba.

Kaden Carr-White had a hit and scored a run and Carson Livers also scored a run, but it was enough to help the Explosion rally from an early deficit.
