Tuesday No Tap

Scores in no-tap leagues are higher than in regular leagues because nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike.

The previous week saw a smaller than usual number of high scores in this league, but the scoring pace picked up considerably last Tuesday.

Gary Cromer became the seventh bowler to roll a no-tap 300 game in this league, and there were three 800 series and five 700 series bowled.

Jeff Napier and David Robinson each left two pins with their last ball to record game scores of 298, while Matt Joyce left three pins for a 297 score.

Napier (853), Joyce (839) and Robinson (831) reached the 800 series level.

A 700 series was bowled by Carl Daniels (748), Cromer (732), Jeff Sadler (715) and John Hickam (708).

Narita Rose led the league’s ladies with a 725 series and 278 game. Donna Fourre bowled the second-best women’s game (242) and Novel Davis the second-best women’s series (614).

A series score over 600 was bowled by Bill Bowles (660), Jim Hisle (653), Steve Dickey (643), Jim Collins (629), Randy Burgess Sr. (629), Tina Hisle (612) and Jason Abel (605).

Last call for Bluegrass Games

The bowling competition at the Bluegrass State Game will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Eastland Lanes in Lexington.

The deadline for registration by mail has passed, but on-line registration is available until Friday.

There will be singles and doubles events for six age groups ranging from 8 years old and younger to 55 and over. The entry fee is $25 for one event or $35 for two events.

Go to www.bgsg.org for information and entry forms.

Galaxy golf scramble and no-tap tournament

There will be a merger of two sports during the first weekend in August.

The Galaxy Bowling Center is sponsoring a golf scramble on Aug. 4 at the Battlefield Golf Course with a tee time of 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $60 per player and includes green fees, cart, lunch and snacks. Call 624-4444 to register. Registration will remain open until 9 a.m. the day of the tournament.

The first-place team will collect $400 cash, the second-place team $240 and the third-place team will receive a $200 credit from the Battlefield Pro Shop.

A portion of the proceeds will go to support the local Hospice program.

Participants in the golf tournament will be granted free entry for a no-tap bowling tournament on Sunday, August 5. The bowling tournament will award a $500 first-place prize.

In addition to regular strikes, nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap competition.

The entry fee for the no-tap tournament is $20 for those who do not participate in the golf tournament.
