H.S. GOLF: Central finishes fifth at preview tournament

RICHMOND — The Madison Central boys golf team opened the season with a solid showing Monday against some of the state’s best competition.

The Indians finished tied for fifth at the first-ever Preview Tournament at Championships Trace Golf Course in Nicholasville.

The event was hosted by West Jessamine.

Central finished with a total team score of 319, +31. West Jessamine ran away with the title, shooting an even-par, 288. St. Xavier was second at 306, +18.

Three Indians shot a +6, 78, and finished tied for 13th — Dylan Kelly, John Cornelison and Carter Skipworth. Kelly and Cornelison each shot 39 on both the front and back nines. Skipworth shot a 41 on first nine holes, then bounced back with a 37 on the final nine.

Devan Gabbard shot a +13, 85 and tied for 43rd. Zach Miller shot a +25, 97 and finished 60th.
