GIRLS SOCCER: Berea improves to 5-0

Lady Pirates have scored 37 goals

BEREA — Berea Community continued its season-long hot streak, beating Bath County 6-0 Tuesday night at home.

The Lady Pirates are now 5-0 on the season and have outscored opponents 37-9.

Against Bath County (0-3) Berea’s Sydney Sandefur scored three goals, Taylor Powell had two and Andrea LaGrange added a goal, as the Lady Pirates went up 3-0 at halftime and added three more scores in the second half.

Powell scored off an assist by Sandefur to give Berea an early 1-0 lead.

The two teamed up again, with Powell setting up Sandefur to make it 2-0.

Late in the first half, Sandefur worked the ball left to right into the middle of the field and blasted a shot into the right corner for a 3-0 lead.

Thirty seconds into the second half Powell scored again.

The junior collected the ball and dribbled through the Bath County defense, scoring the quick goal.

Ten minutes later Sandefur picked up her third goal to increase the lead to 5-0.

LaGrange added the final score, setting up a shot from just outside the penalty box and lofting the ball over the goalkeeper’s head for a goal.

Through five games Sandefur and Powell have each scored 14 goals.

Tonya Renzenbrink has scored eight goals for the Lady Pirates.

The goal by LaGrange was the first by any player other than Sandefur, Powell and Renzenbrink.

The Berea defense held off the Bath County offense to earn its first shutout of the season.

Berea returns to action at 5:30 p.m. at home on Thursday against Estill County.
