RICHMOND —
Congratulations to Gail Campbell who captured the championship of the 55-59 age group at the 31st annual Kentucky USBC Senior Women's Championship Tournament held at London on Oct. 6 and 7.
Campbell bowled a best game of 246 on the way to winning the title. The win earned her $88 and a paid entry for the Senior Women's National Tournament in Reno, Nev. in July 2013
Charity tournament a success
A total of 47 bowlers participated in the 3-6-9 and no-tap tournament last Saturday to benefit the Lexington Road Church of God kitchen appliances fund.
The three top-scoring men — Lewis Jones Sr., John Welch and Allen Smith — won prizes donated by local businesses.
Prizes were also awarded to the three bowlers with the best women's scores — Tammy Fourre, Beverly Shearer and Sue Hegelmeyer.
Two tournaments set for Sunday
"Bowl for the Cure" — The Madison County Relay for Life program is holding a "Bowl for the Cure" tournament at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The entry fee is $15 per person to bowl four games using the scotch doubles format in which partners alternate rolling a ball. Prizes will be awarded.
Singles Tournament
A singles handicapped tournament is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. Bowlers will be granted a handicap of 90 percent of the difference between their 2012-13 average and 220.
Bowlers will roll four games over four pairs of lanes with the top five scorers advancing to a stepladder final.
The winner will earn $200, provided there is a sufficient number of entries. The entry fee is $20.
Youth bowlers are welcome. Money won by youth bowlers will be credited to their SMART accounts.
Benefit for Madison Southern bowling team
The Madison Southern bowling team is holding a fund-raiser and silent auction at the Galaxy Center on Sunday, Nov. 4.
Participants can bowl for two hours starting at 2 p.m. for $10 plus $2.50 shoe rental. Everyone is invited to bowl for fun and help support the Eagles bowling team.
League Highlights
Three men bowled a 700 series at Galaxy last week.
Ron Roberts and Mark Rogers each rolled a 715 series, while a 706 series was recorded by Matt Joyce.
Cody Dapkus bowled the high game for the week with a 269 score in the Galaxy Classic League.
The best women's scores were a 254 game by Regina Barton and a 596 series by Beverly Shearer.
Galaxy Classic
Ron Roberts joined the Galaxy 2012-13 700 club with a 715 series, which included the league's second-best game for the night at 257.
Cody Dapkus rolled the top game at 269, which was part of a 634 series.
A 600 series was also bowled by Neil Haggard (676), Cody Daly (664), Paul Dapkus (650), Glenn Masters (647), Todd Young (626), Joe Reichel (620), Lewis Jones Sr. (618), Mike E. Bryant (611), Gary Cromer (604), Barry Miller (604), Bruce Watson (604), and subs Jeff Napier (640) and Joe Sageser (618).
Regina Barton rolled the top women's game (254) and series (583). Joanna Abrams bowled the second-best women's game (189) and Beverly Shearer the second-best series (497).
The names and best scores of the 35 bowlers who rolled one or more of the 53 200-level games at this session are included in the top scores list at the end of this column.
Galaxy Girls
Brenda Marcum and Charlotte Hackworth bowled the top games for the members of this league last Tuesday at 194. Mary Marcum rolled the next-best game (184).
Brenda Marcum (552) and Hackworth (499) also bowled the top series for the night for league members.
Substitute Beverly Shearer led everyone for the night with a 225 game and 596 series.
Splits were converted by Brenda Marcum (3-10), Carole Bales (5-8), Velma Cruse (5-10), Bridget Settles (2-7), Pauline Denny (3-10) and Brenda Williams (3-10).
Arlington
The top game (188) and series (516) in this league last Tuesday were rolled by Bridget Settles.
Becky Fraser was second in both categories with a 185 game and 473 series.
A 5-7 split was converted by Joan Miller, Marietta McBride and Barbara Hendren, Others who picked up splits were Nancy Ross (2-7) and Fanny Rice (5-7 and 5-7-8).
Early Birds
Beverly Shearer (211) and Gail Campbell (199) bowled the top games in this league last Wednesday. They also rolled the best series scores — 580 for Campbell and 534 for Shearer.
Splits were converted by Joyce Kearns (5-7), Beverly Brassfield (3-10), Carroll Hackworth (2-7), Pat Harris (5-10), Sue Hegelmeyer (2-7) and Campbell (5-7 and 4-5).
Wednesday Wonders
The top game (268) and series (706) in this league last week were bowled by Matt Joyce. David Norman rolled the second-best game (237) and Lewis Jones Jr. the second-best series (628).
Bill Bowles (620) and Norman (612) also bowled a 600 series.
Miranda Reffitt led the women in the league with a 191 game and 545 series. Adelle Gadd (179) rolled the second-best women's game for league members, while the second-best series was 478 by Rita Morgan.
Substitute Vanessa Reffitt bowled a 190 game and 521 series.
Friday Night Mixed
Mark Rogers led this league last week with a 267 game and 715 series. John Hickam was second in both categories with a 266 game and 686 series. This was the third 700 series of the season for Rogers.
A 600 series was also bowled by Ronald Richmond (679) and Bill Bowles (615).
Novel Davis led the league's ladies with a 210 game and 540 series, followed by Lisa Ball at 171 and 456. Debbie Jones rolled a season-best 436 series.
TGIF
Ollie Gasser led the members of this league last week with a 237 game and 681 series.
Merle Meade rolled the second-best game (213) and series (554) for league members. Substitute J.J. Reisig bowled a 241 game.
Pat Harris (215) and Sandy Reynolds (213) rolled the best women's games, while the highest women's series were 583 by Reynolds and 519 by Harris.
Note: Jan Farnsworth bowled a 212 game on Oct. 12. Not all the scores for that league were available at the time last week's column was submitted.
Cash Money
Nate Rosenbauer (229) and Mike Aldrich (202) bowled the top games in this league last Monday. The best series scores for the night were 580 by Rosenbauer and 539 by Ronnie Norris, Jr.
Colleen Jackson rolled the best women's game (148) and series (431). Beth Voorhees bowled the second-best women's game (135) and Patricia Norris rolled the second-best women's series (350).
Bad Bowlers No-tap
Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.
Gary Cromer rolled the top series last week at 737. A 600-level series was bowled by Adam Cromer (640), Jack Taulbee (630), Jim Hisle (627) and Ed Maggard (606).
The best men's games were bowled by Hisle (266), Gary Cromer (256) and Jim Campbell (255).
Gail Campbell led all the league members with a 267 game, while the second-best women's game was 229 by Tina Hisle.
Hisle (614) and Campbell (593) rolled the best women's series for the night.
Season-best games were rolled by Jim Campbell (255), Jack Taulbee (255), Vernon Bennett (242) and Eddie Embree (222).
Kids Bowling League
A kids bowling league is now in action at Galaxy on Saturday mornings. The league meets at 10:30 a.m. and includes three games and instruction, plus achievement awards and an end-of-season party.
League action is scheduled through Dec. 8. Call Kandi Weller at 624-4444 to join this league.
The best games last Saturday were bowled by Corbin Roberts (164), Quentin Barnes (118), Nick Lazaroff (116), Evan Campbell (107), Josh Pillion (105) and Alex Lazaroff (102).
The best games of the day by the other participants were: Landon Brittain (65), Abby Campbell (45), Adam Campbell (43), Erin Gugel (39), Jamie Gugel (72), Katelyn Isaacs (62), Justin Kendrick (84) and Tanner Pillion (68).
