The Madison Central wrestling team posted a 2-1 record at a duals meet on Saturday in Richmond.
The Indians defeated Madison Southern, 60-6, but fell short in their next match against Bourbon County, 40-39.
Storm Savage (160 pounds) and Paul Couch both had their opponents pinned at the buzzer but were later waved off by the referee. Either of the pins would have ensured a team win for Central.
The team rebounded with a win over Paul Laurence Dunbar, 47-30. The victory avenged a two-point loss to the Bulldogs last week.
Chris Morrow (126 pounds), Darion Coleman (152 pounds), Storm Savage (160 pounds), Tucker Fair (220 pounds), and Couch went undefeated on the day. Jack Lyndsey, an eighth-grader, made his wrestling debut by pinning his first opponent. He lost his second match, but bounced back and won his third match on points.
Ryan McCallister, a seventh-grader, also won his first high school match against Madison Southern opponent.
Central’s next match will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at home against Madison Southern.
